subway protectron

Fallout 4: subway token, please.

Meet the protectron with a subway attendant identity crisis made in hell, or China.

Whether you're new to the wastelands of Boston or are by now a seasoned vet who's cut his teeth on deathclaw meat, you've no doubt run into one of these annoying clunky bastards. I'm talking about the protectron with the subway attendant personality active. They seem pleasant enough while they calmly ask you to present your subway token, which you have stashed safely away in your inventory for just such an occasion, and generally seem to be indifferent as they proceed to give you a third nostril with their malpractice lasik procedures after taking said token. I don't know if this bot is bugged or if Bethesda honestly just wants to mess with players, but breathe a sigh of relief that those subway tokens you've been eyeballing every time you clean out your inventory of useless baubles and junk do, in fact, have a use.

The trick is simple: press the action button/key one time at the correct moment. You'll know the moment because it's the 4/5 of a second right between the attendant asking you for the token and the attendant bashing your head through your rump. Be sure you only attempt to give the lunatic bot your token one time because if you spam the action button/key it'll end up taking your token yet still try to kill you (might have been a recommissioned IRS bot, but I have no proof of that). Hurrah, now you can listen to "fun" facts about the Boston subway system... o_O

If in the end you feel terribly put out by the experience of spending a subway token you can always pickpocket it back. Be warned though if the attendant detects you afterward it will proceed to ask you for another token. Apparently Bethesda thought enough about making sure players didn't exploit the poor little maniacal bot but not enough to actually make the subway attendant personality useful, or even make sure it works right for that matter. Go figure.
